Obituaries

Oliver Andrew Patterson was born February 10, 1935 to Chester and Tella (Johnson) Patterson in Hunter, MO. He went to rest on August 27, 2010 at his home in Mountain View, MO at the age of 75 years.

He was united in marriage to Mary Ruth Parrott on April 16, 1955 in Mountain View, MO. To this union six children were born. They spent 53 years together.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Mary Ruth; two children, Judith Ann Patterson and Oliver Eugene Patterson; one granddaughter, Denise Nicole Patterson; and two brothers, Earl Patterson and Bill Patterson.

He is survived by his companion, Darlene Kinney of the home; one son, Michael Patterson and companion Patti Phipps of Mountain View, MO; one daughter-in-law, Teresa Patterson of Mountain View, MO; three daughters, Becky VanWinkle and husband David of Winona, MO; Sarah Schweighauser of Springfield, MO, and Anna Carnefix and husband, Dave, Mountain View, MO; twelve grandchildren; Jerrin, Doug, Tiffany and Jacob Patterson; Andy and Daniel Patterson; Michelle, Jamie and Chelsie VanWinkle; D.J. and Rosie Schweighauser; and Olivia Carnefix; six great-grandchildren; Kolton William Patterson and Tamrin Monroe Lee Price; Kaiden Cole and Kamden Eugene VanWinkle; and Makya May and Brooklynn Ruth Schweighauser; four sisters, Annabelle Ashcraft of St. Louis, MO, Hartsell Holford of White Sands, NM, Delores Shephard of Poplar Bluff, MO, and Rita Sullivan of Mountain View, MO; and a host of other family and friends.

Oliver and Mary Ruth moved to St. Louis, MO in 1955 where he worked for the police department. They returned to this area in 1967. In 1969 they opened Patterson Café in Mountain View, which they operated at several locations in Mountain View until 1975. He and Mary Ruth owned and operated Patterson Wood Products in Teresita, MO from 1976 until 1999.

Oliver loved farming and loved riding horses in his younger years while he was able to. He loved raising cattle in his later years. He was always told he wasn’t able but fought to prove them wrong. He was strong-willed and determined through his entire life. Oliver met his friend and companion, Darlene, late in life, who filled his last year with great joy, love and happiness. Together they enjoyed riding the back roads and fellowship with God. Oliver loved God and his family dearly and will be missed greatly by those who had the honor of knowing him.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Mountain View, MO with Tom Becker officiating. Interment was in Greenlawn Cemetery in Mountain View, MO under the direction of Duncan Funeral Homes.


Linda Lee Norris was born in Marengo, Illinois on February 24, 1942 to her parents, Lester Schuring and Irene Swallisch Schuring. Linda passed away at her home Thursday morning, August 26, 2010, making her age 68 years 6 months and 2 days.

Linda and Jack Gene Norris were married December 19, 1959 making their union together 50 years. To their union, two daughters were born; Kimberly Kay and Deborah Sue.

She retired from GTE in Genoa, Illinois where she served for over 28 years. After Linda and Jack retired,, they built a home on the family farm near Hartshorn. She then went to work at Pineview Christian Home where she continued to work until she became ill.

Linda accepted Christ at the Presbyterian Church in Illinois at a young age.

Preceding Linda in death are her father, Lester Schuring, one brother, Jerry Schuring, and one sister, Karen Ashley.

Linda is survived by her husband of 50 years Jack Norris of the home in Hartshorn, Missouri; two daughters, Kimberly Patrick and husband, Bill, of Rochelle, Illinois; Deborah Norris and husband, Bernard Ducksworth, of Rockford, Illinois; her beloved mother, Irene Schuring of Belvidere, Illinois; one brother, Charlie Schuring and wife, Rita, of Belvidere, Illinois, two sisters, Donna Dobbratz of Woodstock, Illinois, and Nancy Johnson of Knoxville, Tennessee. Linda is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren and a host of other family members.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Leon Michel officiating.

Interment was in Antioch Cemetery, under the care of Bradford Funeral Home.
