Volunteers Clean Local Streams

Beginning last Tuesday at Montauk State Park and continuing through Saturday evening at Van Buren, volunteers from numerous organizations picked up trash from the stream beds and the riparian borders of Current River and Jacks Fork. The Freshmen Honor Society from Salem High School joined with DNR staff and representatives of the Ozark Heritage Project to clean up nearly a third of a dumpster of trash from the State Park at the headwaters of Current River. Thirty-five students and their sponsor, Mrs. Sellers, picked up cans, plastic and even several tires from the area around the multiple springs. Afterwards they were provided lunch courtesy of Country Mart in Salem and then received a tour of the Mill built in 1896.
