Parent Appreciation Night Held at SHS

Summersville Basketball boys and cheerleaders get ready for presentations during Parent Appreciation.

Senior Night Success With Wildcat Victories

Senior night against Dora in Summersville for the last regular season home game was a rousing success as the Lady Wildcats defeated the Dora Falcons 51-45 and the varsity Wildcats handed Dora a 67-63 loss.

In Lady Wildcat action, the ‘Cats knotted the game up 45-45 with 29 seconds to go and ended up winning 51-45 on some excellent free throw shooting and 2 great steals. The Lady Wildcats have won 8 games this year!!! Way to go Wildcats!!! A big thanks to Coach McGee for being instrumental in getting the Lady Wildcat program back into gear. Enjoy your retirement, Coach McGee!!!

The boys game found the Wildcats playing a very good Dora Falcon team. The Falcons came into the game with a 16-6 record and seeded first in their district. It was an intense game with neither team having more than a 4 point lead throughout!! Summersville came out and knocked down three 3-pointers in the first quarter, but Dora ran the floor extremely well on fast breaks and kept the score even at the end of the first, 16-16. The ‘Cats started dropping the ball inside and worked hard for their points in the lane while Dora continued to punish our press with a few easy baskets. At halftime, it was ‘Cats 35-Falcons 33.

Dora jumped out to an early lead in the third before Summersville made 3 consecutive three-pointers. Summersville took the lead back with 10 seconds on a steal to lead going into the 4th, 52-50. The ‘Cats never did let the Falcons lead again. With 30 seconds left, the ‘Cats were up 65-63 after Dora made an inside lay-up. Dora fouled Scotty Haynes with 14 seconds to go. He converted both free shots and Dora never scored again. Summersville won 67-63. Senior Dustin Tinsley led all scorers with 18. Scotty Haynes had 13 and Corey Smith had 11.

Seniors Honor Coaches

Seniors Derek Pobst, Coach Jeremy Russell, Dustin Tinsley, and Coach Reed are pictured beside Dustin Tinsley’s parents while Casey Appleton reads his portion of the presentation.

At the last home game, the Summersville senior boys read a poem during Coach Brett’s presentation.

Dustin: Coach..we seniors think it’s about time for you to stop thinking so much about us and basketball.

Derek: We run and run and run some more, trying to satisfy your need for skill and speed, so with our change we found a wave-runner in our price range! (presents coach with a small plastic wave-runner)

Casey: Seriously Coach...your year with us is just about over. You have been our awesome advice giver, but now it’s time to float on down the river! (Derek and Dustin present two river rafts to the coaches) We hope you enjoy these rafts and gift certificates from Karr’s and Trails End with a friend! Your boys, Dustin, Derek and Casey

SHS to Host Circle A Donkey Ball

America’s craziest and most unpredictable sport – donkey ball – is coming to Summersville High School gym Thursday, March 18 at 6 p.m.

Circle A Donkey Ball Show is fun, family friendly entertainment. The 2010 senior class will make up the teams.

The old saying, "stubborn as a mule," will be exemplified when the senior class matches wits with the donkeys. The odds are that in most cases, the donkeys will win. The old rodeo days will be brought to mind when the local Matt Dillons and Hop-Along Cassidys take their spills and bounces.

There will be plenty of laughs for the entire family. You haven’t witnessed basketball until you have seen it played on donkeys. It is a little different than regular basketball. Taking a shot at the basket when the donkey decides to go the other way, or decides you have been on his back too long, can be difficult. Every shot at the basket must be taken while sitting on the donkey.

Donkey ball is not a laugh-a-minute sport, but rather a laugh-a-second sport. You won’t want to miss this evening. Get your tickets from any member of the senior class.
